Trip to Goa

GS Ramesh

Becoming Senior Citizen and also becoming Grand Father is a very nostalgic feeling. My Grand Son was in Goa and obviously I went to Goa and I always felt that I am strong enough to hold my feeling, but somewhere God has created such bondage that my Grand Son pulled me to Goa and the trip was very enriching and a new learning of life.

I also had an opportunity to meet one of my old friend whom I met after 40 years. He happens to be the IG of Police. When I met him we discussed about our past and some of the learning I had with my Father was narrated by him which made me very emotional. He said that my Father was not only Father for Ramesh and my Brother and he was Father to all and he was the man who believed in forgiving.

Honestly, I learnt this from my Father and during my career many times my Colleagues used to say that how come you forgive a person, who has back stabbed you. I always used to reply to them that this is Law of Karma, in the past there might have been certain conflict in relationship which has resultant into the present behavior by him. You may get angry and shout but never harm someone. The Philosophy taught to me by my Father was as a HR person the first Thumb rule you should have is never take a job of anyone because if you dismiss anyone behind him 4 people are there i.e. his Family and his Parents. Virtually you are kicking on so many people stomach, so if you are true HR try to rehabilitate him and change him.

Today most of the Industries is going through the issues wherein we try to exhibit our power to satisfy our ego and never try to look at the issue in a positive manner. It has to be accepted the fact that people are manipulating and trying to take advantage, but we should not get influenced by their behavior or so to say even understanding he is trying to manipulate, counsel him then leave him like that because God only decides the future of the people and it is their destiny what they bring for themselves.
May be all this are philosophical but in reality it happens many times. Manager feels depressed and frustrated by the behavior of others and when they feel they are helpless they take the course of Newton Third Law, “Action with Reaction”. If we avoid to have such reactions and work out a strategy to make other person realize by adopting positive discipline approach, most of the IR issues in the Industry can be avoided and the Manager of today can remain young even at the age of 60. They have to take the course are :

i.                   To be a good Listener
ii.                 To be more Proactive
iii.              To be a good emphasizer
iv.              Then To be a good solution provider

Hence Understand Yourself and Understand Others, to make your life More Peaceful and Beautiful.

The Gunshot-Ambition&Greed

GS Ramesh

Many were curious about what actually happened after the Gun Shot. I can understand the inquisitiveness in the prospect of IR & Managing the Industry.
The Bullet was outcome of Political rivalry resulting into such Point blank death. Honestly, this was nothing new in Bihar, may be for us it is shocking. One group was from the then ruling Party and the other group was Militant Political outfit. Interestingly these people used to settle their score through Point blank Gunshot, instead of wasting time haggling and assaulting. They always felt pride by telling that they have so many murder charges and so many Court cases running.
Reflecting my journey the learning has been the following:
i)                   Ability to adapt oneself to the change.
ii)                Creating acceptability through positive behavior and performance.
iii)              Be an example to others.
The above three principles, which I learnt thro’ my experience has actually built the success story of mine. I always believed that we shouldn’t run after anything whether it is money, fame or reputation. If you run after them then they will make you to run more. If you become an example for others, automatically all will follow you. The best strategy is to build ourselves as role model, so that people will start looking up and emulate.
The flip side of today is majority of soul is more engaged in burning themselves by comparing & getting frustrated, but I always felt that this shows incompetence and failure. If you feel you are the best prove and show to others you are the best and always remain the best. How do you think about this? Why don’t you share your thoughts and reactions, this would help me to learn more.
Happy New Year and Be the Best….

The Bible for me

GS Ramesh

I have always felt that reaching out is the inertia within self, which creates high level of drive to do things differently.  “Honesty in Relationship” has been my Secret Mantra, because I felt that, the most important thing a person should be that He should be honest to himself. Well, if you are honest to yourself and love yourself the relationship blossoms.

How ………..
People – I took a decision to go underground, in different shifts and visit each and every working spot and meet the employees (Miners) and the pending applications which were piled up, I used to carry and settle on the spot, after discussing with the employees. This process gave me a better understanding of working style of Coal Mines and honestly all the Miners were so happy to meet me in their working spot. This also helped me to understand their working condition and their issues. This actually worked out to be a unique approach of empathizing them and the net result was “Trust was built”.

Process and Productivity – I prepared a ready reckoner hand book noting down all the important points, which covered all the decisions taken in the last 10 years along with the process sheet. This hand book finally became the Bible for me to equip myself for any situation. This is a typical example of “Knowledge is Power”

The process was long. Virtually, I spent few weeks’ working day and night to understand the documents, and then the process, and also the people working. So, what I learnt in this journey as a HR professional were:
      Reach out – To empathize.
           Respond    – To provide solution
     Reassure    – To gain trust
                      “Be Environmentally Sensitive”
These are the HR Mantras which I understood thro’ the experiential learning, on site Management, which are not taught in books. Thus one should feel the essence of life and then only Drive within starts.
